Engagement season is in full effect and if you’re a bride beginning to think of all the little details for your wedding, then this post is for you!

One of the biggest phrases I hear in our consultations is “I don’t know much about flower types, is that okay?” and I am here to tell you YES! It is perfectly fine to not know much about flower types because that is why you’re hiring a florist. So then if you aren’t sure about flower types, what should you focus on when it comes to your wedding floral design? The answer is simple, and it’s an Aesthetic.

Your floral vision should come all together based on your overall vision or aesthetic you want to create. You’ll want to ask yourself what type of vision and aesthetic do I want for my day? How do I want it to feel?

Vogue and Modern?

Romantic and Ethereal?

Or maybe Garden and Enchanting?

Then once you have an idea of how you want your day to look and feel, start searching those keys words in Pinterest or google. You’ll be able to find inspiration for that vision and save to your wedding board. From there, you can then think about the color palette for your day and find inspiration based on the colors of your wedding. From the images of your aesthetic and color palette, we can take it from here.

One of my favorite parts of our design process is creating the floral vision based on what I’ve discussed with our couple. Each design board we create is based on our consultation and how our couple wants their day to feel and look. Our couples do not need to know the specific flower types, because with the aesthetic they imagine, as well as their color palette, we can choose flower types that fit within that vision. It allows us creative freedom to put a full design together, without the restriction of sticking to a specific flower type. It also allows us to make last minute changes to the flower types based on availability and how they look for your wedding. Seasonality is HUGE when it comes to wedding florals, and often times the flower type you might want, is out of season, therefore making it hard to get or more expensive because of importing. By allowing your florist to stick within the vision and color palette you’ve discussed, you allow them to create better designs with seasonal flowers.

This is why it is important to hire a florist that understands the vision you have in mind and it’s okay to consult with a few different florists until you connect with the right one. Just like you, we also want to connect with each client and ensure we understand the vision they want. If we feel we aren’t a great fit, then we’ll recommend a few of our flower friends who might be!

So in conclusion, when it comes to your wedding design and florals, think about the aesthetic and color palette you want, and trust your florist to take it from there.

We have a few more wedding dates available in August and September, inquire to begin our committed consultation process.
